Patrick Garner and Brian Taylor have republished their 2011 classic, D is for Dingley.
William Henry Dingley was arguably the most skilled English reel maker of the 20th century. An inventive and consummate craftsman, Dingley’s genius dominated more than 50 years of tackle history, an unrivalled feat. Today fishermen and collectors avidly seek his reels.
Numerous photographs are provided, as well as rarely seen scans of period catalogues. The authors interviewed former Hardy and Dingley reel makers, reviewed original documents, corresponded with Dingley family members, and corrected rumours and errors. Collectors world-wide shared their prized Dingley reels for analysis and photo-documentation.
As a result, more than 60 Dingley reels are illustrated, including the rare and spectacular. Exterior features and internal checks are shown. Subtle period differences are highlighted, and numerous variations illustrated.
